This year St John Fisher College Bracken Ridge Year 7 students will be wearing a newly designed uniform, marking the most significant uniform change in the College's 44-year history.
College Principal Britt Gurnett presented the new uniform of a white blouse, with interchangeable skirt, trousers or tailored shorts option, and a unique tartan design. This design will see the phasing out of the maroon and white striped dress that students have proudly worn since 1990.
“The uniform draws upon the College's past traditions, retaining the maroon tie and the iconic white hat and will include a maroon blazer for winter and formal occasions."
“Our students want contemporary, inclusive uniform choices which ensure comfort in a range of learning experiences," Britt said.
“This is a uniform versatile enough to be substituted as they grow and for the changing seasons.
“Throughout our consultation and design process, we felt inspired to design a uniform that suits all of our students and prepares them for a variety of real-world environments.
Ms Gurnett adds this year's Year 7 students will be the first cohort to wear the uniforms with current Year 8 and 9 students transitioning to the new design over the next three years.
“St John Fisher College is a growing school community, and this change to the formal uniform reflects our growth as an innovative learning community which prepares young women for a changing world," Britt adds.
“The second stage of our College's 20-year masterplan is also now underway, as we prepare to accommodate 800 students by 2027."
As part of the works a new administration building including reception, staff rooms, offices and meeting spaces, is being constructed, and the current administration building will be converted into a wellbeing hub.
The construction project is anticipated to be completed later this year.
